Schaller breaks BC record in loss to Muskingum

   The Bluffton College women’s basketball team played one game last week, losing to Muskingum 72-50. The Beavers now stand with a 0-3 overall record in the early stages of the 2003-04 season.

 

Bluffton 50, Muskingum 72

   Bluffton came out very well early in the ball game as they were up 15-4 with 11 minutes left in the first half. A late half surge by the Muskies put them up by seven at the end of the first. The Beavers shot 43 percent (12-for-28) shooting in the first half to only be down by seven 37-30 going into the locker room.  Bluffton went 8-for-26 in the second half (31 percent). Overall, the Muskies ended the game with 42 percent shooting, compared to the Beavers 37 percent on the game.

    The highlight of the game for the Beavers came from sophomore Karin Schaller (Jenera/Arlington) who broke the Bluffton College recorded for blocks in a game. Schaller posting eight blocks in the game eclipsing the previous record of five. Coach Curtis commented, “Karin has been working very hard on defense and has played outstanding defense so far this year. I’m sure this won’t be the last defensive record she breaks this year.” Schaller also posted a team high nine rebounds an added seven points on the night. Leading Bluffton in scoring was senior Lindsay Bacon (Troy/Troy) with 17 points on the evening. Freshman Tanya Rickenberg (Defiance/Paulding) threw in 10 points and a team high seven assists.

 

   Senior Lindsay Bacon leads Bluffton this season with 12.0 points per game and five three-pointers made. Bacon is currently tied for 7th in scoring in the Heartland Conference. Freshman Tanya Rickenberg adds 11.7 points per game, good enough for 11th in the HCAC, and ranks 3rd in the HCAC with 13 assists. Sophomore Karin Schaller ranks 1st in the HCAC with 11.3 rebounds per game and 15 blocks on the year, she also ranks 13th in the HCAC with 10.7 points per game.

 

   Bluffton returns to Founders Hall this week for their first home game of the season. The Beavers will host Capital this Wednesday, tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
