BLUFFTON, Ohio – Mt. Vernon Nazarene women’s basketball team knocked off Thiel College, 77-49, in the first game of the Bluffton Tip-Off Tournament on Friday, November 21, 2008. The Cougars remain undefeated at 4-0, while the Tomcats fell to 1-2 overall.
The Cougars were led by Lauren Johnson with 28 points as she dialed long distance with six three-pointers and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line, had five steals, one assist, and one rebound. Amanda Himes added 19 points, pulled down nine boards, and had one block and one assist. Rachel Fiely tallied 14 points, four assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Alexis Harkins finished with six points, five assists and one block for the contest.
Towanda-Michelle Warren paced the Tomcats with 12 points and two assists. Amber Jenae Bodrick added 11 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, while teammate Kim Stitt hit for seven points, one assist and grabbed a game-high 10 boards. Catie Seiber chipped in eight points, two rebounds, and two assists. All four Tomcats picked up two steals in the loss.
Thiel will face Saint Mary-of-the-Woods at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, in the Bluffton Tip-Off Tournament. Mt. Vernon Nazarene moved into the championship contest and will battle Bluffton in the final game of the tournament. The contest is slated to start at approximately 3 p.m., following the Thiel-SMWC game.
