Despite good play, Beavers lose three games on week

The Bluffton University women’s basketball team lost three tough games last week. In the first contest the Beavers lost to Oberlin College 58-45 and in the second road contest, Bluffton fell to Ohio Wesleyan 73-46. The first women’s home game of the year saw the Beavers drop the contest 68-56 to Heidelberg College. Bluffton is now 1-4 on the 2004-05 campaign.
Oberlin 58, Bluffton 45
The Bluffton University women’s basketball team (1-2) was defeated 58-45 by Oberlin College (1-2) on Nov. 23.
In a hard battle on the court, Oberlin led the game by as many as 11 points in the first half only for Bluffton to squeeze their lead to one, 27-26 at halftime. The Beavers continued their strong play in the second half and kept the game close until 10 minutes left when Oberlin widened their lead and took the game away.
Leading Bluffton on the night was freshman Ashleigh Stallkamp (Paulding/Paulding) with 11 points. Senior Lindsey Delscamp (Germantown/Madison) posted 10 points to end the double figure scoring. Freshman Lindsay Bush (Howard/East Knox) grabbed down a team high 11 rebounds with Stallkamp posting seven.
Ohio Wesleyan 73, Bluffton 46
The Bluffton University women’s basketball team (1-3) was defeated 73-46 on Nov. 26 by Ohio Wesleyan (2-2).
Leading the Beavers in scoring was freshman Lindsay Bush (Howard/East Knox) with 11 points. Freshman Amanda Bell (Napoleon/Liberty Center) had a team high eight rebounds and connected with nine points. Both Karin Schaller and Kelly Metzger posted seven rebounds each in the contest for Bluffton.
Heidelberg 68, Bluffton 56
The Bluffton University women’s basketball team (1-4) was defeated 68-56 by Heidelberg College (2-1) on Nov. 27 in their 2004 home opener.
The Beavers found themselves down by as many as 14 points in the first half before they regained momentum late in the period. Heidelberg would lead the game by only one point, 25-24 at halftime. In the second half Bluffton gave the Berg a run as the game stayed within five points until the five minute mark when Heidelberg took the game, 68-56.
Bluffton was led by freshman Ashleigh Stallkamp (Paulding/Paulding) with 22 points and eight rebounds for the game. Sophomore Tanya Rickenberg (Defiance/Paulding) was the only other Beaver in double digits with 12 points and a team high seven assists. Junior Karin Schaller (Jenera/Arlington) had a great game as she posted eight blocks and was second on the team in rebounding with seven.
Bluffton in the Heartland Conference
Ashleigh Stallkamp leads Bluffton in scoring and ranks eighth in the Heartland Conference with an average of 14.2 points per game and 71 points total. Tanya Rickenberg is leading the Beavers assists column with 16 and ranks fifth in the HCAC. Karin Schaller leads the Heartland Conference and the team in blocks with a 4.2 average and 21 total on the year. The team is currently second in the HCAC in rebounding offense with a 43.8 average per game.
Bluffton will be back in action this Wednesday as they travel to Lake Erie, game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. On Saturday the women entertain Marygrove College in Founders Hall, tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
