Sophomore Karin Schaller specializes in blocked shots

BLUFFTON, OHIO – Bluffton College sophomore, Karin Schaller (Jenera/Artlington), finished the 2003-04 season leading the country in blocked shots per game (5.5 per game) in the final NCAA Division III calculation of women’s basketball statistics.
“It’s great that Karin and Bluffton get this recognition. It all goes back to how hard she worked in the off-season to make herself better. It paid off for her,” head coach Amanda Curtis said. “To find out she was the best in the nation after missing five games makes her stat even better. I’m sure she will keep improving and we will see more records fall.”
For her efforts, she was selected honorable mention All-Heartland Conference for the season. Schaller posted her incredible statistics, despite not playing in the final five games of the season due to injury.
Schaller now owns the single game (9 blocks), season block record (115) and career block record (132) for Bluffton as well as the season block record for the HCAC (55) and the single game HCAC record (9).
For the year she averaged 9.7 points per game which placed her at 19th in the league. Schaller also pulled down 9.9 rebounds per game which was third in the league and finished 12th in field goal percentage at .426 percent.
