Bluffton out-rebounds Mount St. Joseph by 11 but falls 68-42

The Bluffton College women’s basketball team took a +11 advantage on the boards but fell 68-42 at Mount St. Joseph Saturday afternoon in BC’s only game last week.

Bluffton falls to 0-7 overall and 0-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Beavers travel to Lake Erie College on Mon., Dec. 16 before having an 11-day break from games. BC will play in the Notre Dame of Ohio Holiday Tournament Dec. 27 and 28.

The Beavers’ 47 rebounds marked a season high, while the Mount grabbed 36 boards, but the host Lion squad scored 24 points off 27 Bluffton turnovers and jumped out to a 43-23 halftime lead.

Mount St. Joseph then opened the second half with a 14-4 run to put the game out of reach as Bluffton falls to 0-7 overall and 0-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. MSJ improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the HCAC.

Senior Melissa James scored 10 points to lead Bluffton, while senior Lyndsey Robinson added seven points. Sophomore Cara Young grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and scored six points, as did senior Erica Rock.

Bluffton shot a season-best 80.0% from the free throw line, but the Beavers only got to the line 10 times—a season low. BC committed a season-low 12 personal fouls but their 42 points marked a new season low and BC grabbed a season-low five steals.
