MSJ knocks Beavers out of Heartland Conference tournament

LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Bluffton University women’s volleyball team was defeated Saturday evening in the HCAC Semi-final match by #2 seed Mount St. Joseph. The Beavers fell in three sets, 25-18, 25-20, 25-21. With the loss, the Beavers bowed out of the tournament and ended their season at 23-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
In their final contest, Bluffton was led at the net by juniors Courtney Zimmerman (Leesberg/Fairfield) and Nicole Wood (Tiffin/Hopwell-Loudon), who had eight and six kills respectively. Seniors Heather Rodman (Mansfield/Mansfield-Christian) and Allison Streicher (Continental) and sophomore Heather Schierer (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) rounded out the attack with four kills each. Directing the offense was senior Shauna Rowland (Bucyrus/Wynford) as she handed out 24 assists.
The Beavers were led in the backcourt by Schierer and junior Jenna Eshleman (Landisville, Penn./Hempfield) as they each tallied eight digs. Rodman contributed three solo blocks and two block assists while Rowland and Wood also pitched in with a solo block each.
Rodman was named to the HCAC All-Tournament team after her solid performances in the post-season. Saturday’s match marked the last time seniors Mandi Leemaster (Fremont/Old Fort), Heather Rodman, Shauna Rowland, and Allison Streicher will compete for the Beavers.
