WILMINGTON, Ohio -The Bluffton University women’s volleyball team rolled to a three-set victory Wednesday night as they defeated Wilmington College 25-19, 25-23, 25-9. With the win, which every Bluffton player saw action in, the Beavers moved to 18-6 overall while Wilmington fell to 5-18.
The Beavers saw the attacking reigns directed by three primary hitters, sophomore Heather Schierer (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry), junior Courtney Zimmerman (Leesburg/Fairfield) and senior Heather Rodman (Mansfield/Mansfield Christian). Schierer slammed down 13 kills, while Zimmerman and Rodman followed closely behind with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Directing the offensive core was senior Shauna Rowland (Bucyrus/Wynford) as she handed out 42 assists.
Defensively, the Beavers were led by senior Mandi Leemaster (Fremont/Old Fort) as she scooped up 14 digs. Rowland and Schierer also contributed seven digs apiece. Rodman led at the net with two blocks. In addition, Leemaster dished out three service aces against the Quakers.
The Beavers play host to conference-rival Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 23, at 1 p.m. in their final 2010 regular season home contest. Saturday’s game will also mark the final home match for seniors Shauna Rowland, Allison Streicher (Continental), Mandi Leemaster and Heather Rodman as they will be honored on Senior Day.
