NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Manchester College on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, and fell to the Spartans in three straight games by scores of 30-22, 30-17 and 30-26. Manchester improved to 14-13 with a 6-2 record in Heartland Conference action while the Beavers dropped to 10-17 overall, including a 2-5 mark in the HCAC.
Freshman Kayla Pickering (Jamestown/Greenview) finished with a team-high eight kills and she added 13 digs. Middle hitter Crystal Augsburger (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) knocked down seven kills while Allison Streicher (Continental/Continental) and Shauna Rowland (Bucyrus/Wynford) contributed with six apiece. Freshman Blake Zickafoose (Lima/Senior), who hit a team-high .556 for the match, and Rachel Alvarez (Convoy/Crestview) chipped in with five kills each.
Rowland and junior Chelsea Wyse (Archbold/Archbold) paced the Beavers with 13 and 10 assists, respectively. From the back row, libero Brittany Roth (Findlay/Findlay) picked up a team-high 16 digs. Zickafoose and Augsburger both tallied two block assists in the loss to the Spartans.
Bluffton returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 25, when it hosts Tri-State University. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m. in Founders Hall.
