Beavers split matches on week, drop to Defiance and Hanover in HCAC play

   The Bluffton University volleyball team (9-13, 0-3) won two and lost two matches on the week.  The Beavers took rival Defiance to four games before falling in the match (30-25 DC, 30-19 B, 31-29 DC, 30-22 DC). On Friday Bluffton traveled to Wilmington to face off with Emory & Henry (30-24, (24-30), 30-23, 30-29) and Wilmington (30-25, 30-24, (18-30), 30-24) as they came out on top in both contests.  To finish out the week the Beavers played HCAC foe Hanover and the Panthers took the match by final scores of ((30-23), 30-26, 30-24, 30-28). 

 

   Seniors Courtney Tisher (Rittman/Rittman) and Kelly Kettinger (Oregon/Clay) led the Beavers during the Defiance match.  Tisher registered 17 kills in only 40 attempts and totaled six blocked on the game.  Kettinger posted four service aces and 26 service receptions to lead the defense. 

 

   Leading Bluffton on the weekend were Tisher and junior’s Keri Kuhlman (Shelby/Shelby) and Leslie Overmyer (Payne/Wayne Trace).   Tisher contributed 39 kills on 94 attempts this weekend.  She also added four aces, 13 digs and six solo blocks during the three matches.  Kuhlman matched Tisher with 39 kills and tallied seven solo blocks on the weekend.  Overmyer led the Beavers with 67 assists; she also posted 30 digs and four service aces.  

 

   Leading the Beavers thus far this season is senior Courtney Tisher.  Tisher has accumulated 213 kills, 23 service aces, 94 digs, and 25 solo blocks.  Keri Kuhlman has tallied 251 kills, 39 digs, and 28 solo blocks on the season.  Senior Erin Kreim (New Washington/Buckeye Central) posted 115 kills, 11 aces, and 250 digs for Bluffton.  Overmyer leads the setters with 369 assists on the year while also adding 170 digs, and 15 serving aces to the total.  Kettinger leads the defense with 429 total digs on the season; she has also contributed 22 service aces.  

 

   Bluffton will be back in action this week as host Heartland Conference opponent Transylvania on Friday October 15, start time for this parents day match will be at 7 p.m.
