TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University track and field teams competed at the Hoosier-Buckeye Invitational on Saturday, February 20. The men placed 7th while the women finished 9th out of the nine Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology took first on the men’s side and Franklin College won on the women’s side.
Leading on the men’s side was senior Robert Johnson (Columbus/Marion Franklin). Johnson won the 55m dash with a new school record and meet record time of 6.49 and the 200m dash with a time of 22.67, which is also a new school record and meet record.
Also scoring for the women was the distance medley relay team of senior Sarah Binkley (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson), sophomore Heather Smith (Elkhart, Ind./Concord), freshman Alison Janzen (Whitewater, Kansas/ Remington), and freshman Katy Heffner (Troy), who came in third with a time of 15:33.57. Sophomore Allison Trent (Orrville/Smithville) placed fourth in the weight throw (40-08.25). The 4x400 relay team of Koch, Binkley, senior Donelle Parker (Painesville/Thomas W. Harvey) and freshman Elizabeth Brown (Edon) placed seventh with a time of 4:38.41.
