ONU Friday Night Series Meet #5

Beaver women shine in final indoor meet

Ada, Ohio - Friday, February 24th the Bluffton men's and women's track and field teams competed at the ONU Friday Night Series meet #5. In the final indoor meet of the season, the Bluffton women’s track and field team finished strong by breaking three school records.

The women’s distance medley team of Jennifer Creamer (Westerville/Westerville South), Chantel Mangrum (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian), Ashey Smith (Delta/Delta), and Sarah Humphrey (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) began the night by running a school record time of 13:41.67. Sophomore Sarah Humphrey continued her success on the night by breaking the mile record with a time of 5:40.34. Senior Rita Muether (Celina/Celina) once again broke her own record in the 400m with her time of 63.10.  Also running strong for the Beavers were sophomore Bree Fetterman (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan), who won the 5000m, senior Kristie Dravenstott (Smithville/Smithville), who placed 5th in high jump, and senior Jennifer Creamer, who finished 6th in the mile. 

For the men’s team Shandon North (Galion/Galion) just edged teammate Colby Bright (Galion/Galion) in the 400m dash for a first place finish.  Junior Johnny Ichrist (Toledo/Whitmer) ran a career best in the 800m, which was good for 3rd place.  Sophomore Tyler Fairchild (Toledo/Whitmer) turned in a solid performance in the 800m race to finish in 6th.

Bluffton has completed the indoor portion of its track and field season.  The Beavers will be back in action on March 18th, when they travel to Rose-Hulman for an outdoor meet.
