Clint Dillon tuned up for next week's national championships by winning the pole vault on Friday at the Baldwin Wallace Twilight Last-Chance Meet.  Dillon won the vault with a clearance of 4.75 meters, or 15' 7".  He will be Bluffton's lone entry to the NCAA Division III Track & Field National Championships, contested May 27-29 at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.  Dillon will enter the national championships ranked ninth in the vault, with his best performance to-date coming two weeks ago, when he cleared 4.85 meters (15' 11") at Indiana's Billy Hayes Invitational.

"We're greatly looking forward to the national championships next week," stated Coach Nate Smith.  "Very few people in any collegiate sport can say that they got a chance to compete in the national championships, so this is something very exciting for us.  I'm glad that Clint had a strong competition day this weekend, as the way he vaulted at B-W is a sign of what he can hopefully do at Millikin."

The national championships meet will conclude the season for Bluffton's track and field team.  The last, and only, Beaver to previously qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships was sprinter Darryl Gard in 1991.  Gard earned NCAA Division III All-American status by placing 6th in the 100 meter dash.
