It may be early in the season, but the Bluffton College women’s track and field squad is already starting to see some positive results and reasons for optimism. Bluffton competed in a tri-meet Tuesday evening at Manchester College, taking on host Manchester and Defiance.
The women's team was paced by the performance of freshman hurdler Amanda Habegger, who won the 300-meter hurdles and finished second in the 100-meter high hurdles. Habegger also led off the 1600-meter relay team which finished second, and in the process took five seconds off their best indoor time of the seasons.
One of the runners joining Habegger on that relay was freshman Jana Hammer, who had a stellar individual outing as well, with two strong second-place races in the 100 and 200 meters. Also helping carry the mile relay to their season-best time was MaryAnna Morgan and Ben Noll. In the longer distances on the track, Rachel Szydlowski set a new personal-best time in the 1600 meters, beating her old best by nearly ten seconds.
In the field events, the women's performances were led by Rachel Noirot, who once again topped her own school record in the pole vault, clearing eight feet for the first time ever. Freshman Michelle Bailey was also impressive with a second-place finish in the discus.
