Beavers win one game on week in HCAC action

The Bluffton University softball team (16-7, 3-2 HCAC) posted one win in their only contest last week. The Beavers took game one from Heartland Conference opponent Manchester College 3-0 and played until inning three in the second game before the contest was called due to rain.
The team will be back in action on April 27 as they host HCAC rival Defiance College (3:30 p.m. start). Bluffton will then entertain conference foe Transylvania University on April 28. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Beavers will then travel to conference opponents Anderson University on April 30 (1 p.m. start) and Franklin College on May 1 (1 p.m. start).
Senior Mandy Snider (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) continues to lead Bluffton with a .385 batting average. Snider leads the Beavers with 12 runs on 30 hits and nine RBI’s. Sophomore Carrie Weisbecker (Okeana/Ross) ranks second on the team in hitting with a .333 average. Weisbecker totals 12 runs, 19 hits and 8 RBI’s on the season. Senior Michelle Pleiman (Yorkshire/Minster) posts a .224 batting average and has recorded seven runs and 11 hits on the year.
Junior pitcher Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) leads the pitching staff with a 0.69 ERA and 113 strikeouts. Betts has given up 48 hits and 18 runs in 101 innings pitched; she owns an 11-4 record on the mound. Freshman Tonya Dean (Kettering/Farimount) posts a 1.76 ERA with a 5-2 pitching record. Dean has given up 41 hits and 15 runs in 43 innings.
