Bluffton wins one game and loses three on week

The Bluffton University softball team (15-7, 2-1 HCAC) won one game and lost three in play last week. The Beavers dropped two games to Heartland Conference foe Mount St. Joseph on April 15 (5-2 8 inn., 10-0). The team then took game one (6-3) from non-conference opponent Huntington College and dropped the nightcap 7-0 on April 16.
Bluffton will be back in action on April 20 as they travel to conference opponent Manchester College (4:30 p.m. start time). The Beavers will then travel to Franklin College for a HCAC game on April 23. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Leading Bluffton the year is senior Mandy Snider (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) with a .365 batting average. Snider leads the team with 27 hits, 11 runs, and 9 RBI’s (Runs Batted In) on 74 at bats. Sophomore Carrie Weisbecker (Okeana/Ross) posts a .315 batting average to rank second on the team; she totals 17 hits and 11 runs. Senior Michelle Pleiman (Yorkshire/Minster) records seven runs on 11 hits and posts a .234 batting average.
Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) leads the pitching staff with a 0.74 ERA and 106 strikeouts. The junior posts a 10-4 record on the mound in 94 innings pitched, she has given up 47 hits and 18 runs on the year. Freshman Tonya Dean (Kettering/Fairmount) ranks second on the team with a 1.76 ERA and a 5-2 pitching record in 43.2 innings of work. Dean has given up 41 hits and 15 runs while striking out seven batters on the season.
