Beavers sweep four games on week; continue winning streak

The Bluffton University softball team (14-4, 2-0 HCAC) won four games in action last week. The Beavers defeated non-conference opponent Heidelberg twice on April 6 (3-1, 4-1). The team then opened their Heartland Conference schedule on April 9 versus Hanover College. Bluffton won both HCAC contests 2-1 and 4-2.
The Beavers will be back in action on Friday, April 15 as they host HCAC opponent Mount St. Joseph (3 p.m. start time). Bluffton will then entertain Huntington College in non-conference play on Saturday, April 16. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Senior Mandy Snider (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) continues to lead Bluffton with a .350 batting average. Snider also leads the team in hits (21), RBI’s (8) and total bases (22). Sophomore Carrie Weisbecker (Okeana/Ross) ranks second on the team in hitting with a .341 batting average, she leads the team in runs with 11 and posts 14 hits and six RBI’s. Junior Michelle Metzger (Lakeview/Indian Lake) has recorded six runs on 13 hits and leads the team in stolen bases with six total on the year.
Junior pitcher Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) posts a .074 ERA with 106 strikeouts. Betts was named the HCAC Co-player-of-the-week for her efforts against Heidelberg and Hanover. She now owns a 10-4 record on the mound in 94 innings pitched and has given up 47 hits and 18 runs. Freshman Tonya Dean (Kettering/Fairmount) totals a 0.90 ERA with five strikeouts in 31 innings pitched. Dean posts a 4-0 record while giving up 25 hits and seven runs on the season.
