Beavers on a five game winning streak

The Bluffton University softball team (10-4) won two games in action last week. Last Wednesday, March 30, Bluffton picked up two wins against Wittenberg in non-conference play. The Beavers defeated Wittenberg 2-0 in the first game and 2-0 in the nightcap.
Bluffton will be back in action on Wednesday April 6 when they travel to Heidelberg College (3 p.m. start time). The Beavers open their Heartland Conference season on Saturday, April 9, when they host Hanover College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. On Sunday, April 10, Bluffton will entertain HCAC rival Transylvania University. The doubleheader is slated to start at 1 p.m.
Leading the Beavers on the year is senior Mandy Snider (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) with a .370 batting average. Snider posts 10 runs scored, 17 hits, seven RBI’s and 18 total bases. Sophomore Carrie Weisbecker (Okeana/Ross) ranks second on the team with a .297 batting average and totals 11 hits, eight runs and a slugging percentage of .405. Junior Michelle Metzger (Lakeview/Indian Lake) totals five runs, nine hits and 10 bases for a .263 batting average.
Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) leads the pitching staff with a 0.97 ERA and 77 strikeouts. The junior pitcher has given up 40 hits and 15 runs in 72 innings pitched. Betts now posts a 6-4 record on the mound. Freshman Tonya Dean (Kettering/Fairmount) posts a 4-0 pitching record with a 1.12 ERA in 25 innings pitched. Dean has struck out four batters, given up 19 hits and five runs.
