Softball goes 4-2 in Rebel Spring Games

The Bluffton University softball team (4-2) played in the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. over Spring Break. The Beavers picked up shutout victories in all four of their wins last week by defeating Rhodes 6-0, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy 2-0, Kean 3-0, and Maryville 1-0. Bluffton will be back in action this Wednesday, March 16 when they host Ohio Northern at 3 p.m. The team will then travel to Adrian College on Saturday, March 19 for a 1 p.m. start.
Leading Bluffton’s bats to start off the year is senior Mandy Snider (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) who is hitting .348 and leads the team in hits (four), runs batted in (four) and total bases (eight). Junior Lindsay Miller (Grover Hill/Wayne Trace) bats .294 with five hits, two RBI’s and five total bases. Sophomore Carrie Weisbecker (Okeana/Ross) follows closely behind with a .267 batting average, one triple, one RBI and six total bases.
Junior Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) was named HCAC Player-of-the-week for her efforts on the mound in Florida. She posts a 0.79 ERA (earned run average) and has allowed only eight runs in six games. She holds her opponents to a .133 batting average and has struck out 46 total batters. Freshman reliever Tonya Dean (Kettering/Fairmount) has pitched a few innings for the Beavers. Dean has faced 23 batters and given up eight hits and two runs.
