Betts and Pleiman earn honors on prestigious academic team

- Bluffton College softball players Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) and Michelle Pleiman (Yorkshire/Minster) have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV softball college division team.

Betts earned first team all-district IV honors. The sophomore pitcher was named the Heartland Conference MVP this season and broke numerous single season as well career pitching records for the Beavers.  She was also named first-team All-HCAC for the second year as well. Betts has a 3.7 cumulative GPA and majors in Chemistry. Sarah will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration by earning a spot on the first team. For the season she posted a 0.74 ERA with a 25-7 record on the mound.

Pleiman earned second team all-district IV honors by posting a 3.8 cumulative GPA. The junior catcher is majoring in Business Administration. Pleiman was a main-stay this season behind the plate as she worked daily with pitcher Sarah Betts. Michelle broke the single season chance record (325) and putout record (301) in 2004. She sits at third place in the career list in most chances and putouts. Pleiman posted a .988 fielding percentage for the season as she committed only four errors in the field.

Bluffton finished the 2004 season as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champions and posted a 26-8 overall record.

The CoSIDA academic district IV team is voted on by 308 sports information directors from the Division I to Division III levels; representing the states of Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.
