BLUFFTON, OHIO - The Bluffton College softball team (23-5, 9-1 HCAC) defeated Franklin College (10-6, 7-3 HCAC) 8-0 in both games of the doubleheader to take over first place in the HCAC.

The Beavers have now posted the most wins in Bluffton College softball history with their 23 victories so far in 2004. The former record was 21 wins held by the 1997 softball team.

Multiple players had extra base hits in the first contest with sophomore pitcher Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) belting out a home run. Betts also picked up the victory on the mound with 11 strikeouts. Mandy Snider, Allison Lange and Carrie Weisbecker posted doubles at the plate.

Game two was just as easy for the Beavers as they posted 12 hits for the contest. Junior Allison Lange (Archbold/Archbold) went 2-for-3 with a double and a three run homer. Betts picked up the victory again with a one-hitter and did not allow a single walk in both contests, improving her record to 22-4 on the mound. For the season Betts has pitched nine shutout games.

The Beavers will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to rival Defiance College for another HCAC doubleheader. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
