KISSIMMEE, FL. - The Bluffton College softball team (6-2) ended their spring trip in style as sophomore Sarah Betts (Bryan/Bryan) threw a no-hitter for the first of her collegiate career, in the second game of the day. The Beavers lost to Wartburg (No. 8 DIII) in the first game 2-0 and defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering 8-0 in the second game.

Betts threw the first no-hitter in the Bluffton softball program since 1997. The last player to accomplish the feat was Erin Kurtz against Malone College during the spring trip in Florida. She posted seven strikeouts for the game. On the season she posts a 0.74 ERA with 46 total strikeouts and only nine hits for the year after facing 121 batters.

“Her no-hitter is well earned. Sarah’s performance on the mound is a dominating force on the team and in the conference,” head coach Holly Spann said. “She’s just a very powerful pitcher. The thing about Sarah is how even keel she is. Nothing seems to rattle her.”

Allison Lange and Sarah Betts both had doubles against Milwaukee. The Beavers will be back at home in action Bluffton field vs. Wartburgon Friday when they host Kalamazoo for a doubleheader. Game time is scheduled to start at 3 pm.
