Senior high jumper Eric Wilson provisionally qualified for nationals with a leap of 2.010 meters, which tied for first place at the invitational. He is the first national qualifier at BC in many years.
“Earlier this year Eric made the difficult decision to forgo his senior year of basketball due to asthma,” said head coach Mark Bluman. “In the long run, though, I thought it would pay off for him to sit out and do the indoor track season, and here we are eight weeks later and he’s on the list to go to nationals.”
Junior Rick Orr won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet (14.630 meters) for Bluffton’s lone individual champion on Saturday.
A new BC women’s record was set as freshman Rachel Noirot cleared six feet (1.828 meters) in the pole vault. Her effort took fourth place in the invitational, while also on the women’s side freshman Laurel Miller scored points in two events as she took third place in the high jump with a jump of 1.530 meters and 6th place in the long jump with a leap of 4.320 meters.
The BC men scored 33 points for a sixth place finish in the invitational, while the women collected 13 points for a ninth place finish.
Also scoring points for the men’s squad were Chris Clemens (shot put, 6th place, 13.728 meters), Mark Suter (high jump, 4th place, 1.950 meters), Jamie Stevens (100 meter dash, 3rd place, 11.33 seconds) and the 400 meter relay team (4th place, 45.31 seconds).
