Spain named Heartland Conference Players of the Week

April 2, 2001

Bluffton College senior Jessica Spain (Newark) has been named the Heartland Conference Player of the Week for her efforts in Bluffton’s four games last week.

Spain capped off an outstanding week by hitting a two-out game-winning homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning to give BC a 4-3 victory over Albion on Saturday. Spain began the BC rally in the seventh inning with a leadoff double and was 3-4 in the game. In Bluffton's four games last week she batted .429 (6-14) and scored three runs. The homer was her second game-winning hit of the season.

Spain leads the team in extra base hits with four (two doubles, two homers) and her 13 hits ranks third on the squad. She is currently batting .277 as the Beavers are now 8-8 on the season.

Bluffton will host Case Western Reserve University on Tuesday and travel to Thomas More College on Friday.
