Tennis team beats Anderson

BLUFFTON, OHIO – The Bluffton College men’s tennis team (5-3, 3-1 HCAC) defeated Anderson University by a final score of 6-3 on Wednesday.

Seniors Kyle Sprunger (Berne, Ind./South Adams) and Brad Boyles (Berne, Ind/South Adams) continued their winning ways at the the #2 doubles position as they increased their record to 8-0 on the year with a 8-3 victory.  All three of Bluffton’s doubles pairings came away with victories on the evening.  Sprunger, Boyles, and senior Owen Beck (Archbold/Archbold) all earned singles wins as well.  Sophomore Pete Martin (Berne, Ind/South Adams) lost a long a hard-fought match to Anderson’s Blake Burke, whom Martin knows well. The two were high school doubles partners at South Adams high schoool.

The Beavers will be back into action Thursday in a Heartland Conference contest against Transylvania.  The match is scheduled to start at 4 pm.

No.1 -  Beck (BC) defeated Scott (AU) 6-2, 6-1
No. 2 –Boyles (BC) defeated Barr (AU) 7-5, 6-1
No. 3 –Deal (AU) defeated Wott (BC) 7-5, 6-1
No. 4 - Sprunger (BC) defeated Haskett (AU) 6-2, 6-2
No. 5 – Burke (AU) defeated Martin (BC) 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5)
No. 6 - Delavernge (AU) defeated Nussbaum (BC) 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2)
Doubles
No. 1 –Beck and Wott (BC) defeated Scott and Deal (AU) 8-4
No. 2 - Boyles and Sprunger (BC) defeated Barr and Burke (AU) 8-3
No. 3 –Martin and Nussbaum (BC) defeated Haskett and Delavernge (AU) 8-4
