Beavers beat rival Defiance 6-3

DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Bluffton College men’s tennis team (3-1, 1-0 HCAC) defeated Defiance College 6-3 Thursday in the team’s Heartland Conference opener.

Senior Kyle Sprunger (Berne, Ind./South Adams) continued his unbeaten streak at #4 singles with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory.  Senior Brad Boyles (Berne, Ind./South Adams) won his #2 singles match in straight sets and also teamed up with Sprunger for a 8-0 #2 doubles win.  Senior Owen Beck (Archbold/Archbold) and sophomore Pete Martin (Berne, Ind,/South Adams) also won their singles matches for Bluffton.

The Beavers will be back into action on Saturday April 3 in a three team match against Hanover and host Mount St. Joseph.  The match is scheduled to start at 11 am.

No.1 -  Beck (BC) defeated Farber (DC) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2
No. 2 –Boyles (BC) defeated Butler (DC) 6-0, 6-3
No. 3 – Call (DC) defeated Wott (BC) 6-0, 2-6, 6-4
No. 4 - Sprunger (BC) defeated Sponseller (DC) 2-6, 6-2, 6-0
No. 5 - Martin (BC) defeated Cronkhite (DC) 6-4, 6-3
No. 6 - Auld (DC) defeated Nussbaum (BC) 6-0, 6-1
Doubles
No. 1 –Beck and Wott (BC) defeated Farber and Butler (DC) 8-3
No. 2 - Boyles and Sprunger (BC) defeated Call and Sponseller (DC) 8-1
No. 3 –Moyer and Cronkhite (DC) defeated Martin and Nussbaum (BC) 8-5
