The Bluffton College men’s tennis squad finished up its season last weekend by placing fifth at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships. BC earned a total of 38 points, just three points behind fourth place Hanover, to finish fifth in the tournament for the second year in a row.

  Junior Kyle Sprunger
Junior Kyle Sprunger (Berne, Ind./South Adams H.S.) capped off an excellent season by capturing the #4 singles title for the second year in a row. Sprunger went a perfect 9-0 in the HCAC and 10-3 overall at #4 singles this season.

Everyone that competed for Bluffton contributed in the strong showing at the tournament as each individual walked away with at least one win. Juniors Brad Boyles (Berne, Ind./South Adams H.S.) and Dan Wott (Fremont/Clyde H.S.) had fourth place finishes at #2 and #3 singles, respectively. Three Beavers had seventh place finishes: junior Owen Beck (Archbold) at #1 singles, senior David Barnes (Groveport/Tree of Life Christian H.S.) at #5 singles, and freshman Kent Liechty (Archbold) at #6 singles.

Also adding to BC’s point total were two fourth place finishes and one fifth place finish in doubles play. Sprunger and Boyles placed fourth at #2 doubles to finish off a successful year together, as they went 6-3 in the HCAC and 10-3 overall. Barnes and freshman Pete Martin (Berne, Ind./South Adams H.S.) placed fourth at #3 doubles and Beck and Wott finished fifth at #1 doubles.
