MENNO SOCCER CLASSIC TO FEATURE BLUFFTON, EMU AND GOSHEN
HARRISONBURG, Va. – The athletic departments of Bluffton University, Eastern Mennonite University and Goshen College have announced a massive double tri-match between the three schools’ soccer teams slated for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 10-12. The games, dubbed the Menno Soccer Classic, will be hosted by Christopher Dock Mennonite High School in Lansdale, Pa.
The format features both men’s and women’s teams from each Mennonite-based college in a six-game, three-day event. On Friday, Sept. 10, Eastern Mennonite and Bluffton (Oh.) take each other on, with the women playing at 5:30pm followed by the men at 8:00pm. The Beavers return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 11, against Goshen (In.) with games at 11:00am and 1:00pm. EMU then plays the Maple Leafs on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
Daily tickets prices are $5 for adults (ages 18 and older) and $3 for students (ages 6-18). Students with valid IDs from BU, EMU or GC will be admitted free.
All three schools will have admissions and alumni representatives in tents outside the stadium, giving both prospective and past students a chance to learn about the institutions, connect, and pick up free giveaway items. Christopher Dock will also be operating the school’s concession stand. Live stats of all six matches at the Classic will be available online through the Eastern Mennonite athletic website.
Bluffton’s men finished the 2009 season with a 4-12-1 record, while the Beaver women were 8-9. EMU’s men were 7-7-5 and the Lady Royals closed at 7-11 for the Harrisonburg, Va., school. Both BU and EMU play in the NCAA Div. III. For the NAIA Goshen squads, the Maple Leafs were 12-7-1 on the men’s side and 5-11-1 for the women.
