Beilharz and Mitchell post career highs despite loss

GAMBIER, OHIO – The Bluffton College men’s basketball team (2-3) were beat 75-69 by Kenyon College (3-3) on Tuesday night.

Bluffton took the game early in the contest but could not hold the lead over Kenyon. Late in the first half both teams found themselves tied at 22 all. Going into halftime the score was 33-25 in favor of the Lords. In the second half, Kenyon led by as many as 15 points. The Beavers battled their way back but could not shake the lead to lose by six in the end for the final score.

Junior Bryce Beilharz (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) had a career high night with 12 points and led the Beavers in assists with 3. Sophomore Scott Bergman (Elmore/Elmore) led the team in scoring with 15 points and grabbed a team high five rebounds. Senior Brad Boyles (Berne, Ind./South Adams) threw in 11 points to end the double digit scoring. Sophomore Brett Mitchell (Avon Lake/Avon Lake) posted a career high nine points and had two steals for the contest.

Bluffton went 27-for-63 for 43 percent on the night, compared to Kenyon’s 49 percent. The Beavers posted 40 rebounds with the Lords grabbing 30.

Bluffton will be back in action this Saturday at Founders Hall for their second home contest of the season. The Beavers will face Temple Baptist for a 3 p.m. tip off.
