Bridgewater College claimed the championship of the Fourth Annual McDonald's of Bluffton Holiday Tournament with a thrilling 103-96 double overtime victory over Ohio Dominican College on Saturday afternoon in Bluffton College's Founders Hall.
Bridgewater didn't lead at anytime during regulation and trailed by 13 points early in the second half, but Kyle Williford's jumper with seven seconds left in regulation capped a remarkable comeback that tied the game at 80-80 to force overtime.
Williford, who tied a tourney record with 34 points, scored all eight Bridgewater points in the first overtime session, but neither team could score in the final 1:32 of the first extra session, so the two teams battled into a second overtime tied at 88-88.
Williford was held scoreless in the second OT, but the Eagles still scored 15 points and held ODC to just two field goals to pull out the seven point win.
Williford was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and was joined on the all-tournament team by Bridgewater guard C.W. Durrette, who scored 16 points in the championship game after leading the Eagles in scoring with 19 points on Friday night in the win over Bluffton.
Bridgewater's point total set a new tournament record and the two teams combined for 199 points, also a tourney record.
Bridgewater center Jeff Schwalm set a tourney record with 10 assists in the win over Ohio Dominican.
Ohio Dominican guard Brad Cupito poured in 33 points to lead the Panthers and tied a tourney record with seven 3-pointers in the game. He was also named to the all-tournament team along with ODC's Jeremy Renner.
