William Williams is the first athlete to be inducted into the Hall of Fame posthumously. Williams represented that group of Bluffton graduates who have entered the field of education. There is no group larger than the number of alumni who have elected to enter the field of service to man than the teachers who are graduates of Bluffton. Williams is special among this group because of the variety of positions he held. He was a teacher, coach, principal, counselor, curriculum director, athletic director and associate professor.
Bluffton recognized Williams for his 11 letters in three different sports. He earned three letters in football, four in baseball and four in basketball. In addition to these awards Williams was captain of the baseball and basketball team and All Conference in basketball for three years.
Probably the greatest tribute that can be paid to Williams is the fact that former Coach, A.C. Burcky, placed him as one of the top athletes on his list of deceased men who deserve recognition in the Bluffton Athletics Hall of Fame. Nothing can speak higher of a man than the fact that as the years wear on a former player still remains on top in the mind of his coach.
