Lynn Martin

Lynn Martin not only was a four year letterman in both football and basketball, he received three golf awards and another in baseball, matching the 12 letters he had won at Mount Blanchard High School.

He was All Mid-Ohio Conference offensive guard in 1965 on a 7-2 grid team. He also was a guard on the court and that’s where he really stood out.

He was All-MOC three times in basketball, first team All NAIA District 22 once and second team All-District once. He held a single game record of 19 field goals vs. Northwood and a career mark of .812 free throw percentage. He is among the leading career scorers at 1,513 points with a 17.8 average and his 42 points against Northwood is at the top of the best single game mark.

In five other cage categories he is near the top, including his mark of scoring 20 or more points in 39 games.

Martin became athletic director at Olentangy High School near Columbus after a long career at Van Buren High School. He went to Van Buren in 1974 after eight years as an assistant coach.

As basketball coach for the Black Knights, Martin has a record of 243-96, seven Blanchard Valley Conference championships, 11 sectional titles, six district championships, four district runner-up places, two regional championships, one regional runner-up, two state tournaments (semi-finalists in 1985 and 1986) and was named BVC coach of the year six times.

In six years as golf coach he had two sectional titles, two district championships, was third in the state in 1984 and coached the state champions in 1985. He also was assistant football coach and athletic director.
