Janice Althaus

Janice Althaus was a three sport standout in volleyball, softball and basketball for the Lady Beavers. On the hardwoods, she led Bluffton in scoring with a 15.1 average, tied for the rebounding lead at 10.2 per game and paced the squad in field goal shooting in 1976-77.

Jan received the Kathryn Little Award as the outstanding senior woman athlete in 1980. She won four letters in both volleyball and basketball and three in softball. She coached a high school team one spring, thereby missing a fourth softball award.

An education major at Bluffton (HPER), Althaus received her master’s degree (outdoor recreation) from the University of Akron in 1994. She has been teaching high school health and physical education at Wadsworth High School. She was a varsity volleyball coach for 11 years, after coaching the junior varsity five seasons. She also was the girl’s junior varsity basketball coach 11 years.

She attends First Mennonite Church in Wadsworth, where she has been active as a senior deacon. She also plays sand volleyball, is in a women’s basketball league and participates in church league bowling.
