
The 1985 volleyball team was the first Bluffton team to win 30 games in any sport, finishing 35-6 overall, 6-0 in the Western Buckeye Collegiate Conference, first in the Ashland tournament, first in the WBCC tournament, first in the NAIA District 22 tournament and second in the Bi-District 15 tournament.
Coach Kim Fischer’s team won 11 of its first 12 matches, dropping only 3 sets in the process. After a pair of losses, they won 7 in a row before dropping a close game to arch-rival ONU and then reeled off Findlay (twice) for the WBCC tournament title. Following another close loss, to Grove City, the Lady Beavers downed Findlay and Walsh for the district crown. They then lost to Northwood Institute in the Bi-District tournament to end the season 35-6.
Teresa Runner was first team All League and All District, Dawn Freck was first team All League and second team All District and Mary DeJute was second team All League and honorable mention All District. Coach Fischer was selected WBCC Coach of the Year.
