1962 Football Team

  The football team of 1962 posted a 7-2 record, giving it the championship of the Mid-Ohio Conference. This was towards the end of Ken Mast’s career as head football coach at Bluffton.

  Six Bluffton players won All-League honors. They were Mike Goings, Larry Stover, Willie Stemen, John Weber, Ralph Pitzer and Ken Schwarzentraub. Goings and Stover were selected to the All-State team among Ohio small colleges.

   Goings also won individual honors as the leading scorer of small colleges in the United States and ranked third nationally in rushing for small colleges. He still owns the Bluffton record for most rushing yards in a game, with 314 yards on 21 carries and four touchdowns vs. Alma. Goings also owns the records for touchdowns in a season (22) and most points in a season (132) at Bluffton.
