BLUFFTON COACHES VOLUNTEER AT CHARITY CAMP

Lauren’s First and Goal Football Camp Raises Money for Pediatric Brain Tumor Research

Bluffton University Head Coach Tyson Veidt and Assistant Coach Kyle Coleman are two of more than 70 coaches from across Ohio and the surrounding area who volunteered at the Lauren’s First and Goal Football Camp on Sunday, June 26 at Otterbein University.

The camp is open to students who will be entering grades 9 through 12 in Sept. 2011. During the one-day camp, athletes receive instruction in a variety of offensive and defensive skills from volunteer college coaches representing colleges and universities from Division I, II and III. The camp will also feature Ohio State standout and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin as the guest speaker. To register for the camp, student-athletes can visit http://www.laurensfirstandgoal.org/ for instructions, including how to submit their $30 registration fee through Paypal. Campers wishing to pay by check can download printable forms from the website.

The camp is the primary fundraiser for Lauren´s First and Goal Foundation, which is a 501c3 charitable organization that provides financial support for brain tumor research and cancer services, offers financial and emotional support to families living with pediatric cancer, and increases awareness of the disease. Created in 2004 by John and Marianne Loose in honor of their 14-year-old daughter Lauren, a pediatric brain tumor survivor, LFG has donated more than $800,000 toward the fight against pediatric brain tumors and cancer.

The final count for Lauren's 2011 First and Goal was 342 campers (385 registered) and over $13,500 dollars from camper donations alone. As of today’s date, we have raised over $227,000 dollars in 2011. In just eight years we have raised over one and a half million dollars, which is being used to support ground breaking research into better and less toxic treatments for pediatric brain tumors and supporting families dealing with a pediatric cancer diagnosis through educational, recreation and psychosocial support programs.  None of this would have been possible without the volunteer coaches' support, expertise and dedication to the cause.
