Bluffton University will open their 2004 campaign at home vs. CentreCollege. The
Beavers finished 2003 with a 2-8 overall record, 0-6 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference. This season marks the first time since 1958 that the two teams have met
on the gridiron. Centre finished the 2003 season at 8-2, 5-1 (Southern Collegiate
Bluffton coach Greg Brooks enters his second year at the helm of the BlufftonUniversity football team. The Beavers made great strides in 2003 as a young team developed themselves on and off the field for the upcoming season.
Centre is led by Andy Frye who is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Colonels. Frye's overall record is 36-24 and he captured his first conference title as a head football coach in 2003.
Bluffton holds a 2-1 advantage over the Colonels. The two teams last met in 1958
when the Beavers defeated Centre on the road 19-16.
Bluffton finished the 2003 campaign at 2-8 (0-6 HCAC). Tailback Ben Dodds helped
lead the Beavers in 2003 as he scored a team high 78 points and 13 touchdowns for
the year. Quarterback Jared Owens threw for 1,388 yards completed four touchdowns
from the air for an average of 138.8 yards per game in 2003. Mark Gable led the receiving
corps with 35 receptions for 518 yards and two touchdowns. Centre went 8-2 in 2003
as they captured the co-championship of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
with Trinity University (TX).
