Senior Chris Sommers named to third team as linebacker

BLUFFTON, OHIO – Senior Chris Sommers (Delphos/Jefferson) was selected to the 2003 Football Gazette All-North Regional team. He was placed on the defensive third team as a linebacker.

Chris SommersSommers was selected first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for his third straight year after transferring from division II Tiffin University. He has led the Beavers in tackles in all three of his years as linebacker. He posted 98 tackles as a sophomore, 116 tackles as a junior and 115 tackles this year. Sommers has a total of 329 tackles for his career as a Beaver.  He has also totaled three sacks for 21 yards, 16 tackles-for-loss for 45 yards, one interception, eight pass break ups and three forced fumbles for his tenure.

“I’m happy for Chris. He is very deserving of the recognition, despite our record,” Head coach Greg Brooks said. “He was a great team leader and tough worker for us.”

The team was chosen by a selected committee of sports information directors from around the Midwest that includes the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Kentucky. Bluffton finished the 2003 campaign at 2-8, 0-6 HCAC.
