The positives were plentiful Saturday afternoon in Salzman Stadium as Bluffton College hosted Capital University for their final tune-up before the 2002 season kicks off next Saturday at Marietta College.
The Bluffton offense scored on their first five possessions and the defense picked off four passes on the afternoon to highlight the action.
Both teams began the scrimmage with four possessions beginning from the opponent's 20-yard line. Bluffton senior kicker Adam Burgess booted a 20-yard field goal on BC's first drive, which was then followed by touchdown runs of two yards by sophomore fullback Andy Tabler, five yards by senior quarterback Brad Moore and one yard by junior fullback Scott Flathers.
Starting from the 20-yard line, Capital scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and kicked a field goal on their fourth posession.
On Bluffton's next possession from BC's own 30-yard line, Moore hit sophomore wide receiver Michael Kingsley down the sideline for a 70-yard touchdown.
Flathers added a five-yard scoring run later in the scrimmage to round out the scoring for the Beavers.
Sophomore defensive back Matt Chiles picked off a Capital pass on their first mid-field possession, while junior middle linebacker Chris Sommers, freshman outside linebacker Keith La Croix and freshman defensive back Matthew Clemens all had picks, as well.
The Crusaders would go on to score four touchdowns during the remainder of the scrimmage.
