September 17, 2001

Bluffton College sophomore running back Jovan Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/West H.S.) has been named the Heartland Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week thanks to his efforts in Bluffton's 23-20 last second victory over Thiel College Saturday.

In his first collegiate start at running back, Johnson rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown on 35 carries, and not once lost yardage on a carry. In addition, he caught two passes for 16 yards, returned three kickoffs for 70 yards and returned two punts for nine yards.

Sophomore Jovan Johnson picks up yardage against Marietta College in Bluffton's season opener.

Last season as a freshman Johnson started at wide receiver, where he remained for the first two games of this season before making the switch to running back.
