A 42-yard field goal by Bluffton’s Adam Burgess as the clock expired lifted the Beavers to a 23-30 win over Thiel College Saturday afternoon in Salzman Stadium.

Thiel scored two fourth quarter touchdowns to tie the game 20-20 with 2:18 left to play before Bluffton moved the football down to the 25 yard line to set up the game winning field goal with no time outs and the clock running. BC snapped the football for the field goal attempt with one second left in the game.

Bluffton improves to 1-2 on the season and has next Saturday off. BC will return to action on Sept. 29 at Anderson University.

Bluffton sophomore Jovan Johnson rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries, and junior quarterback Brad Moore hit senior Jamie Stevens on a 55-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to put BC up 20-6 before Thiel’s comeback.

BC defensive backs Jeff Company and Josh Slaughter picked off Thiel passes in the second half to end Tomcat drives.
