Thornton selected for NCAA leadership conferenceApril 19, 2000
Bluffton College junior Heather Thornton (Mansfield/Ontario HS) has been selected to attend the 2000 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference to be held May 28 through June 1 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Florida.
Thornton, a Recreation Management major, will be one of 352 student-athletes from around the country and from all NCAA divisions attending the conference. A total of 885 student-athletes were nominated for the conference.
"I am excited," said Thornton about attending the conference. "It's a good opportunity for me to develop my leadership skills and to understand how others use their leadership skills in other situations."
A three-year performer for the BC softball squad, Thornton is hitting .329 so far in 2000 with six doubles. Bluffton is 14-10 overall and 7-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, good for second place in the HCAC standings. BC won the HCAC Tournament last season.
Thornton will be one of 20 softball players from around the country attending the conference, according to the conference roster released by the NCAA on May 2. A total of 353 student-athletes will be attending the conference.
The list of 20 softball players includes players from Arizona State, Cal State-Sacremento, Cornell, St. John's, San Diego State and Southeast Missouri State, just to name a few.
