Denny Thompson

One of the most versatile performers to ever step onto the BC basketball court, there isnt a single statistical category in the BC record book that doesnt list the name of Denny Thompson 78, and several categories list his name at the top.

A first team All-Hoosier-Buckeye Conference and All-NAIA District 22 selection his senior year, Thompson scored 536 points for an average of 22.3 points per game, ranked fifth best all-time, while on defense he recorded 82 steals (3.4 spg), both BC records.

Thompson also led Coach Glenn Snyders squad in rebounding his sophomore and junior seasons, averaging more than eight boards per game. Denny is one of just seven BC players to combine for 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. His 554 career rebounds rank 9th all-time.

Dennys .528 field goal percentage as a junior led BC and his .499 career field goal percentage is second highest all-time. Against Hanover his senior year he sank 13 of 13 free throws, a perfect mark that only nine other BC players have equaled with at least 11 attempts.

Thompsons 327 points as a sophomore also led the team and he ended his career with 1,296 points, ranking him ninth all-time. He scored 20 or more points in a game 30 times and he is one of only 11 players to score 300 or more points in three different seasons.

Denny taught at Montpelier and Lima Bath before moving onto Elida High School where he has taught for the past 16 years. He has been the varsity golf coach all 16 of those years, picking up five coach-of-the-year honors in the Western Buckeye League. He has also accumulated more than 200 wins in 13 seasons as Elidas junior varsity boys basketball coach. He and his wife Janna (Saxton 79) have three children.
