1998 BC Cross Country RecapA young but talented 1998 Bluffton College cross country squad raised some eyebrows around BC and the Heartland Collegeiate Athletic Conference last fall. New head coach Mark Bluman piloted a team composed of three juniors, one sophomore, and four freshman through a season filled with personnal records and tough team competition. The season started with a second place finish at the Defiance College Invitational on September 5. From there the team faced stiff competition including several nationally ranked NCAA division I teams at the Mel Brodt Invitational at Bowling Green State Universityon September 19 and at the Queen City Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati on October 16. At the HCAC Champhionship junior Erin Meadows, Bucyrus, placed 27th overall. She then placed 161st overall at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet hosted by Albion College, MI. Katie Gwirtz, Shelby, earned the Freshman of the Year Award and Meadows earned the Top Runner of the Year Award. Three BC runners set their lifetime personal records in 1998, while two more ran their best times in over two years. With the top seven runners on the team returning and a strong recruiting class by Coach Bluman, BC cross country will continue its success in 1999. BC Cross Country 1998 Season's BestBest Perfomances
