It was a tough way to end the season, but the 1999 Bluffton College women's soccer team can certainly look back on their record-setting season with pride. Their eight wins marks the most victories in a season for the nine year old BC women's soccer program, and several individuals turned in outstanding seasons, as well.
That season, however, came to an end last Tuesday at Hanover College in the first round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament as BC fell to the Panthers 5-1. Senior DeAnna Anderson scored her 10th goal of the season in the loss as the Beavers finished the season with an overall record of 8-9.
Anderson set one BC record when she scored nine points in one match earlier this season against Franklin, while she tied another school mark with her five goals in that contest. Freshman goalkeeper Anna Steiner set two Bluffton records, as she recorded three shutouts in a row for one record and ended the season with five shutouts for the other record. She ended the season with 169 saves.
Head Coach Rick Fee added to his own career wins record, as the fifth year BC mentor now has 29 victories.
Final season statistics will be announced at a later date.
