Franklin ends BC season in HCAC Semis
Bluffton College saw their season come to an end Friday evening in Wilmington College's Raizk Arena as Franklin College, the HCAC's #2 seed, handed the Beavers an 86-79 defeat in the HCAC Tournament semi-finals.
Bluffton's Elizabeth Snavely was named to the all-tournament team. She was 11-12 from the free throw line Friday and scored 17 points to go along with nine rebounds.
Franklin led from start to finish in the game, although BC trailed by just two points three different times in the first half as Jen Bear scored 11 first half points. She would go on to lead Bluffton with 20 points.
BC brought the score to within four points as Kristin Helvey hit a 3-pointer with 1:22 left in the game. She ended with 14 points and was 9-10 from the line.
Franklin was 5-9 from the free throw line following Helvey's trey, but Franklin's Anne Heile and Abby Carrigan hit baskets to keep the Grizzlies ahead.
Bluffton made 35 of 43 free throw attempts (81%), but shot just 26% from the field in the second half and 31% for the game. BC connected on four of 15 3-point attempts, but did force 21 Franklin turnovers and committed just 12 of their own. Franklin shot 53% in the second half and 50% for the game.
Melissa James chipped in 10 points for BC, while Kristy Crall recorded a game-high six assists and added seven points. Bree Wood saw her first real action in several weeks as she has been recovering from a shoulder injury. She collected a game-high four steals and scored five points.
