BC volleyball team has busy week

Competing in four matches in a five day span last week, the Bluffton College volleyball team posted victories over Adrian and Manchester and will take their 11-16 record to the Calvin Tournament this weekend. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament is set for November 5 and 6.
BC seniors Sheryl Cunningham, Dena Eichelberger and Shannon Hedrick all played in their final home matches during the week, which began on Tuesday in Founders Hall against Anderson University. The Beavers won the first game 15-13 but dropped the next three 6-15, 4-15, 9-15. Sophomore Mandy Pequignot led BC with 15 kills, while junior Betsy Hook recorded 11 kills and six blocks. Cunningham had 10 kills and junior Alison Harrer notched 23 digs. Sophomore Erica Jellison contributed 39 assists.
Bluffton got back into the winning column on Wednesday against Adrian College, Mich. with a three game victory 15-6, 15-8, 15-3. It was BC's second win over the Bulldogs this season as Hedrick had a team high nine kills. Eichelberger recorded 13 digs, Cunningham had four blocks and Jellison put up 27 assists.
BC made it two in a row on Thursday, taking a 3-1 victory on the road at Manchester College, 7-15, 15-11, 15-9, 15-6. Cunningham had 10 kills and six blocks to lead the Beavers, while Harrer had 13 digs and Jellison had 25 assists. Junior Beth Weidus served three aces in the match, while Eichelberger had two aces and nine digs.
Bluffton then ended the week with Senior Day on Saturday at home against Hanover College, Ind. The Beavers fell in four games 11-15, 16-14, 11-15, 7-15. Cunningham led the squad in kills with 10, while sophomore Lisa Rathburn had 20 digs and Jellison had 35 assists. Hook and Cunningham both had five blocks.
