Four BC football players named honorable mention All-AmericanJanuary 26, 2000
Four members of the 7-3 Bluffton College football squad have been named to the honorable mention list of USA Football Magazine's 1999 All-America Team. Junior running back Tyson Goings (Defiance/Wayne Trace HS) along with three seniors, wide receiver Eric Metz (Norwalk/St. Paul HS), quarterback Joel Parrett (Oakwood/Paulding HS) and defensive back Jarret Smotrila (Leetonia/Crestview HS) were named in the release announced on the magazine's website earlier this month.
All four were also named first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Goings rushed for 1,116 yards in 1999 and scored 17 touchdowns. He is currently fifth on the school's all-time rushing list with 2,804 yards.
Metz caught 62 passes for 1,063 yards in 1999, both school records, as are his 163 career receptions for 2,677 yards. He also holds records for punt returns and punt return yardage.
Parrett passed for 2,354 yards and 18 touchdowns in 1999, both school records, as are his 2,562 yards in total offense. His career totals of 5,684 yards on 412 completions are both second, while his .651 career completion percentage and 154.09 efficiency rating are both school records.
Smotrila recorded six interceptions in 1999, as well as 64 tackles and three blocked kicks. His 16 career picks are second all-time, while his total of 284 career interception return yards is a new BC record.
