In his third season at the helm, head coach James Grandey looks to lead the Beavers into the top of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and an appearance in the postseason tournament.
In his second season as head coach, Grandey finished with an 9-28 overall record and 6-15 in the HCAC.
Grandey’s first two seasons were full of highs and lows as the team began to create a reputation as one of the HCAC's top offensive teams. His squads have broken school single season records in hits, doubles, home runs, total bases and runs.
Grandey looks forward to the future as his team hopes to improve yet again this season.
Before coming to Bluffton, Grandey served as a graduate assistant on the Muskingum College baseball and football coaching staff as he worked towards his master’s degree.
Grandey earned a bachelor and master’s degree from Muskingum College in 1999 and 2002, respectively, and was a standout student-athlete while playing for the Muskies. As a senior he earned first team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in both football and baseball and was named first team All-Mideast Region in baseball, as well. Grandey’s academic career was just as impressive, as he earned Academic All-OAC honors as a sophomore, junior and senior and was named first team CoSIDA Academic All-American in baseball as a senior.
Grandey and his wife Jessica, who is head women’s tennis coach and assistant women’s basketball coach at Bluffton, reside in Bluffton.
Assistant Coach Eric ScreetonEric Screeton is entering his second season as the graduate assistant coach for the Bluffton University baseball team.
Screeton is a 2004 graduate of Manchester College where he earned a degree in secondary education with his specialization in social studies. He was a four year starter on the baseball team at Manchester while twice being named All-HCAC. Eric led the Spartans to the 2004 NCAA Division III World Series as a third baseman.
Screeton stays active by continuing to play competitive baseball during the summer and he has coached a 18 and under team from Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the past two years.
