Beavers take two games from Hanover in Heartland Conference series

HANOVER, Ind. - The Bluffton University baseball team (7-22, 4-11 HCAC) won two games in their Heartland Conference series with Hanover College (11-20, 6-9 HCAC). Hanover took the first game 6-5 on April 22 with the Beavers winning game two 7-4 and game three 11-4.
Bluffton lost the first game of the series 6-5 when the Panthers won the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning. Freshman Eli Wagler (Archbold/Archbold) led the team offensively as he went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Senior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville) belted out a one-run homer for the Beavers to cap off the extra base hits in the game. Fiely also received the loss on the mound to take his record to 0-3 for the season.
Bluffton then took both games of the doubleheader on Saturday as the team won 7-4 in game two of the series. The Beavers came out strong as they led the game 5-1 after two innings. Hanover came back as they scored two runs in the third with the Beavers solidifying the victory with two runs in the sixth inning. The Panthers then scored a lone run in the bottom of the seventh for the 7-4 final. Freshman Tony Moore (Elida/Elida) and Ryan Fiely led the team with two hits each in the game. Fiely also posted one run scored and two RBI’s at the plate. Senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) went the distance on the mound to take his record to 3-3 for the year. Moore gave up 10 hits, two walks and struck out five batters.
The Beavers won game three of the series 11-4 as they posted 13 hits in the nightcap. Ryan Fiely had the hot stick again as he posted three hits, two runs scored and five RBI’s on the game. Fiely also knocked out his second home run of the series. Freshman Greg Sigg (Maumee/Maumee) belted out a three-run home run in the final game. Junior Lowell Wyse (Camden, Mich./Heston) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to round out the Beaver’s bats in the finale. Freshman pitcher Tim Kay (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) received the win to take his record to 2-3. Kay gave up five hits, walked three and retired three batters at the plate.
Bluffton University will be back in action for a non-conference game against Capital University on April 27. First pitch for the contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.
