Beavers pick up lone Heartland Conference win at Mount St. Joseph

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Bluffton University baseball team (4-11, 1-2 HCAC) lost their HCAC series finale at Mount St. Joseph (11-5, 2-1 HCAC) 4-3 on March 25. The Beavers won the first game of the series with a 6-0 shutout and dropped the second game of the doubleheader 3-1 on March 24.
Junior Lowell Wyse (Camden, Mich./Heston) led Bluffton in game one when he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one double and an RBI. The Beavers lead early on as they scored two runs in the top of the first and the final four runs over the fifth and sixth innings for the 6-0 win. Senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) picked up his first shutout victory of the year on the mound to take his record to 1-3.
Junior Riordan McClain (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) led Bluffton with two hits and a double in the nightcap. Freshman Tim Kay (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) struck out five batters as he picked up the loss on the mound. Bluffton lost the second game of the doubleheader 3-1.
Freshman Kyle White (Berne, Ind./South Adams) posted two hits and an RBI in the series finale to lead the Beavers offensively. Senior Ryan Fiely (Greenville/Greenville) and freshman Chris Bauman (Milford/Milford) knocked out a double each in the game. Senior Brad Moore (Fredericktown/Fredericktown) received the loss on the mound as he gave up two hits and three runs. The Lions won the final game of the series 4-3.
Bluffton University will be back in action on Tuesday, March 29 when they travel to Cedarville. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
